Flocculants are organic molecules which will, often with a coagulant, produce large floccs that will remove solids from a solution.
Flocculants, as opposed to coagulants, need particles present in the water that is cleansed. For treatment of organic sludge typically a coagulant is used before addition of a flocculant. In organic sludge with a high level of dissolved solids, such as production of foodstuffs or fish farming, flocculants can be used alone.
