Water Treatment
Ion exchange resins are used to remove unwanted ions from a solution
Ion exchange resins are granules of a carrier with a large surface area which holds active chemical groups who, using the difference in affinity, will remove ions from a solution and replace them with another ion. Typical use is softening of water, where magnesium and calsium is replaced by sodium. Ion exchange resins can also be used for de-ionization and removal of specific ions such as heavy metals. Most ion exchange resins can be re-generated to increase the lifetime.
